Mega-stars and Mega accents

An actor unlike your regular Joe, is one who is capable of handling accents and dialects convincingly. I will now give you a list of actors who can mimic dialects and Languages quite convincingly. Jim Carrey, Brad Pitt, Sean Connery, Mel Gibson, Keanu Reeves, Kamalhasan, Amithab Bhachan, Naseerudeen Shah and Ben Kingsley have all handled foreign accents and languages quite convincingly.

I guess that is one aspect that sets them appart from the rest of the acting fraternity. However this crucial skill is simply missing in the arsenal of most super-duper-mega starts from Kerala. Our mega stars can't even convincingly portray the accents from  the different districts of Kerala, let alone a different language. I feel most of these actors are mediocre at best. They simply perform as themselves, and rarely do justice to the characters.

Mamooty's trivandrum accent was praised as a true depction of Trivandrum accent by everyone except those folks from Trivandrum. It was funny, yes. But accurate? not in a million years. Does anyone know why accents have not been an important aspect in conferring the title of "Mega-Star" to these aeging grandfathers.

  1. i dont understand the reason y u have included Mr Amitabh Bachan with those Mega stars, Amitabh bachan is an average actor at best. You cannot consider him as Mega star, he was a Super star during early eightees and he never tried anything unconventional or out of the box roles to test his acting skills , during those years he was acting in typical Manmohan Desai formula movies and his stars faded by the end of 80's but medias hyped him after Kaun banega crorepati and he's living in his old glories. Amitabh Bachan a Mega star? my foot...!

Nishad, accent-dialect-language correspondence is a bit dicey. I am not very sure if Kamal Hasan had done justice to Malayalam - right from Vishnu Vijayam to Chanakyan, he was never comfortable with Malayalam. Perhaps in Tamil, yes. I think you may have forgotten Nana Patekar in Hindi. And in Malayalam, my all time favorite is T G Ravi.
