Feel good factor for degenerates

The recent success Krishnanum Radhayum in cinemas all over Kerala is somewhat similar to the  success of  Slumdog Millionaire in the west. This  post should never be considered as an attempt to compare  the two movies by any stretch of the imagination.  My comparison is purely on perception and how it affects the mind of the viewer.

Slumdog Millionaire conveyed  a collective feel good factor to the western audience at seeing such miserably poverty in one of  India's most modern cities at a time when western economies were crumbling while India enjoyed two-digit growth rates. Slumdog Millionaire provided a balm to sooth those damaged  egos.

Due to the modern  influence of western notions of  political correctness our Mallu folks have  been recently deprived of the many sadistic pleasures  of mocking people of difference: Homosexuals, transvestites, handicapped folks, mentally ill people, short folks, (so-called) low castes,  balding men and dark skinned people (Which by the way is 90% of all people in Kerala).

And now in Kerala we have Santhosh Pandit:  Who gives the average Mallu  an opportunity  to laugh at someone whom even they perceive as silly or below par.  Someone who is   intellectually, and superficially inferior to himself.

Kerala has  found a means to vent her degenerate collective complexes. The much wanted feel good factor that she has never managed to achieve by excellence in any other field of activity.

എന്താണു് സദാചാരം?

പ്രായപൂർത്തിയായ, വിവാഹത്തിൽ ഏർപ്പെടാത്ത രണ്ടു വ്യക്തികൾ സ്വമനസാലെ ഒരു മുറിയിൽ തങ്ങുന്നതിൽ എന്തു് സദാചാര കുറവാണു് എന്നു മനസിലാകുന്നില്ല.  അതു് അവരുടേ സ്വകാര്യതയായി കാണാനുള്ള സംസ്കാരം കേരളത്തിലെ ജനത്തിനു ഇല്ല എന്നതാണു് ഉണ്ണിത്താൻ  പ്രശ്നം ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിക്കുന്നതു്. ദൃശ്യ മാദ്ധ്യമങ്ങളിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ ചൂടേറിയ ചർച്ച വിഷയവും ഇതാണു്. "കേരളത്തിലെ സദാചാര ബോധം നഷ്ടമാവുകയാണോ"?

രണ്ടു വ്യക്തികളുടെ സ്വകാര്യതയിൽ എത്തിനോക്കിയതിൽ സദാചാര കുറവൊന്നും ഇല്ല. അവർ ആരോ ആയിക്കൊള്ളട്ടെ, അവർ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ഏതു് നിയമങ്ങളാണു് ലംഘിച്ചതു് എന്നു ഇനിയും വ്യക്തമായിട്ടില്ല.

അഭ്യസ്ത വിദ്യരായ ചെറുപ്പക്കാർ 9 വയസു കാരിയെ ലൈംഗികമായി പീഠിപ്പിച്ചപ്പോൾ മാദ്ധ്യമങ്ങൾ ഈ ചോദ്യം ചോദിച്ചില്ല.

രാത്രി 8 മണിക്ക് ശേഷം സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക്  വീടിനു പുറത്തിറങ്ങി നില്ക്കാനാവാദായപ്പോഴെ  കേരളത്തിലെ സദാചാരം നഷ്ടമായി.

വ്യക്തി സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം എന്തെന്നും  സ്വകാര്യതെ എന്തെന്നും, സദാചാരം എന്തെന്നും  വെളിവില്ലാത്ത കാടന്മാരുടേ നാടായി മാറിയിരിക്കുകയാണു് കേരളം.

ശശിയണ്ണന്റെ പുസ്തക പ്രകാശന പരിപാടി എല്ലാം ഗംഭീരമായിരുന്നു. പിന്നണിയിൽ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചവർ ഓരോരുത്തരും അഭിനന്ദനങ്ങൾ അർഹിക്കുന്നു. ഒരു കല്യാണ വീടു സന്ദർശിച്ച നുഭൂതിയായിരുന്നു.

അഭിനന്ദനങ്ങളുടെ കാര്യം പറയുമ്പോൾ ചില കാര്യങ്ങൾ എത്ര ചിന്തിച്ചിട്ടും പിടികിട്ടുന്നില്ല.

UAEയിൽ സിത്താർ വായനക്കാരിൽ ഏറ്റവും പ്രസിദ്ധനാണു് ഉസ്താദ് ഇബ്രാഹിം കുട്ടി. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സിത്താർ വായന ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.  അതുപോലെ തന്നെ UAEയിൽ Western classical symphony orchestraയിൽ violin വായിക്കുന്ന ഒരു മലയാളി നിഥിൻ "വാവ" യാണു്. Western Classical വായിക്കുന്ന മലയാളികൾ ഇവിടെ വെറെ ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു തന്നെ സംശയമുണ്ടു.

സംഗീത അവതരണത്തിന്റെ അവസാനം കയ്യടിച്ചു പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുക എന്നതു് കലകാരനു കൊടുക്കാവുന്ന ഒരു അംഗീകാരം ആണെന്നാണു്  എന്റെ അറിവു്. ഇവരുടെ ഓരോ പരിപാടികൾ കഴിയുമ്പോഴും  കയ്യടിക്കാൻ പ്രത്യേകം എടുത്തു പറയുന്നതു കേട്ടു. ഒന്നോ രൊണ്ടോ പേർ കയ്യടിച്ചു. മറ്റുള്ളവർ കുറച്ചുകൂടി മലർന്നു നിവർന്ന് കസേരകളിൽ ഇരുന്നു.

ചില രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ വിമാനം Runwayയിൽ ഇറക്കുമ്പോൾ യാത്രക്കാർ കയ്യടിച്ചു പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കാറുണ്ടു. ഇന്നു വരെ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ വിമാനം ഇറങ്ങുമ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ഇതു കേട്ടിട്ടില്ല.

അപ്പോൾ എന്റെ ചോദ്യം ഇവയാണു്:

കയ്യടിച്ചു് പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നതു് പാശ്ചാത്യ സംസ്കാരമാണോ? പണ്ടു കാലങ്ങളിൽ കേരളത്തിൽ ഈ സമ്പ്രദായം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നോ?
അവതരിപ്പിച്ച സംഗീതം മലയാള സില്മാ ഗാനം അല്ലാത്തുകൊണ്ടാണോ ജനം കയ്യടിക്കാത്തു്?
കൈയ്യടിച്ചു പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നതു്, പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും കുട്ടികളുടെ പരിപാടികൾ കഴിയുമ്പോൾ, നമ്മൾ മലയാളികളുടെ സംസ്കാരത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗം അല്ലയോ? രാഷ്ട്രീയ കാരുടേ  പ്രസംഗത്തിനു മാത്രമേ കൈയ്യടിക്കാവു എന്നു് ഏതെങ്കിലും രഹസ്യ study-classൽ പഠിപ്പിച്ചു തരുന്നുണ്ടോ?

സംശയങ്ങൾ ആരെങ്കിലും തീർത്തു തരും എന്നു കരുതുന്നു.

നമ്മളുടെ സ്വതന്ത്ര ഭാരതത്തിൽ സ്വകാര്യത ഒരു പ്രശ്നമേ അല്ല. ആർക്കു വേണോങ്കിലും ആരുടേ email തോന്നിയതുപോലെ തൂക്കി വിൽക്കാം. അങ്ങനെ ഉള്ളപ്പോൾ ആണു നമ്മുടെ ബ്ലോഗ് സഹോദരങ്ങൾ നമ്മളുടേ email കണ്ടവന്റെ social networking കുന്ത്രാണ്ടത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടിടുന്നതു്. ചോദിക്കാനും പറയാനും ആരും ഇല്ലാത്തതുകൊണ്ടാണല്ലോ ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യുന്നതു്.

അപ്പോൾ എനിക്ക് സഹികെട്ട് ഒരിക്കൽ ഒരുത്തനു ഈ മറുപടി അയച്ചു. അതിനു് ശേഷം അവന്റെ ശല്യം ഉണ്ടായിട്ടില്ല.

I refuse to believe that you have been suffering from this terrible epidemic that has gripped most of the mallu community.

I received this message from [some mass mailing scam outfit], They say you have added my email address to their list. Since you have taken this liberty to distribute my email address to yet another indian social networking site, pray tell me what drove you to this act of gratitude?  Did any of my actions make you feel that I was in terrible need of the company of such friends. Or was it your illumination that my present company was too mediocre that I may be in need of a friendship overhaul? You must feel that I am missing the zest and the zing-bang-ding-a-ling-dong in my life, otherwise you wouldn't do such an act of kindness.  Would you?

Dealing with ridiculous email forwards

ഞാൻ മലയാളത്തിൽ ഒരു ബ്ലോഗ് എഴുതുന്നു എന്ന ഏക കാരണം കൊണ്ടുമാത്രം എനിക്ക് ധാരാളം emailകൾ വരാറുണ്ടു്. ഇതിൽ 99 ശതമാനവും email forwardകളാണു്. കാര്യമായി ഒന്നും എന്നോടു നേരിട്ട് പറയാനില്ലെങ്കിൽ പിന്നെ ഇതുപോലുള്ള email സൌഹൃദം എനിക്ക് സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിൽ ഒട്ടും താല്പര്യമില്ല. ഇപ്പോൾ ഇങ്ങനെ കിട്ടുന്ന forward കൾക്ക് ഞാൻ അയക്കുന്ന മറുപടി ഇതാണു്.

രോഗത്തെ പന്നി പനി എന്നുവിളിച്ചാലും pig flu എന്നുവിളിച്ചാലും virus H1N1 തന്നെ. മാത്രമല്ല പന്നി ഇറച്ചി ഭക്ഷിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു് H1N1 പിടിപെടില്ല എന്നാണു പഠനങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നു്.
