Politics of the uncivil

Learn Kannada In A Year | Non-Kannadigas Bangalore | Language | KD

Chandru explained, "With several IT companies and MNCs coming to Karnataka, lakhs of non-Kannadigas have settled in the state. If they could live with the land, water, air and other resources of the land, they should also understand the culture, history and language of the land. Hence, we have recommended that learning Kannada be made mandatory.
There are fundamentally two different classifications in politics.
Politics of the civilized focus on long term policies like education, economy, infrastructure, and the environment that are pluralistic, sustainable and scalable. The prerequisite for such a political culture is an educated electorate that actively choose its leaders.
Politics of the uncivilized tend to focus on land, religion or ethnicity as common grounds to unify the masses. It's fairly easy to explain the rules to them. Any idiot can distinguish between "us" and "them". So it would not be wrong to say that the leadership of Karnataka has chosen the path of regionalism to unify the people.

Instead of spending money on educating it's people and bringing them up to standards set forth by people from other states, Karanataka has chosen the path of placing hurdles of entry for employment. Hurdles like language and history lessons in order to live in Karnataka. This is nothing but a cheap trick to avoid the elephant in the room. With just 67% literacy rate Karanataka cannot expect to have any luck with electing leaders with vision and foresight, or resolving unemployment.

Regionalism as a policy is inherently flawed. It has a short life and will eventually loose its lustre due to diminishing mass euphoria. Unless you intend to conquer neighbouring states and eventually turn India into a dictatorship, (where every Indian would speak Kannada and watch Jaggesh and Kashinath movies) Regionalism does not solve any problems.

Kottayam

Dear folks at ****.

I understand that I am a victim of your low grade email spam. Because I know for a fact that My blog is not popular.  But I shall still thank you for your feeble attempt at flattery.

Thank you.

You will notice that I have re-published email and my reply without your institution's name. Trust me that was not in fear of your lawyers,  that was done in order to deny you the cheap popularity you would derive from this controversy.

I wish I could share the same praise towards your esteemed institution, but that would give your organisation my endorsement to continue what you have been doing.

Although ** ***** is holds an honourable position in promoting the Malayalam language and it's literature, I cannot endorse your institution today because of the following reasons:

  1. It has stifled several young writers and denied them their due exposure simply because YOU did not find their work worth publishing.
  2. YOU decide how many copies are printed and YOU fix the remuneration for those authors. There is no room for a third party audit of your print activities. Authors have to just trust your word. I have discouraged several of my friends who had the intention of approaching you for printing. And will continue to do so.
  3. Denial of choice is the most heinous crime a society can do to its consumers. And the society has made YOU into a Monopoly in the publishing industry.  All Monopolies are bad and should not be endorsed by folks with any idea of what Monopolies can do to freedom of expression.
  4. I strongly oppose de-forestation to support print and publishing industries. Especially when we have digital alternatives. Don't give me the stupid exuse that every one in kerala does not have access to the internet to read online content, hence you have to do what you do. (Remember those arguments trans-Atlantic passenger liners recited about why Airlines were dangerous and meant only for the rich? You are now in the very same stage.)
  5. I do not think it is ethically right to re-publish books with renewed copyrights of books whose copyrights have legally expired. You are publishing the ശബ്ദതാരാവലി with copyright notice which is wrong and a misuse of copyrights.
  6. I do not believe in promoting an institution that has ceased to grow with the times, and continue to misuse its position in the society. The Malayalee community should not be told what to publish by a monopolistic publishing industry, that hasn't ventured beyond the 19th century.

Sorry, I cannot endorse your website.

"I would like a mug of hot chocolate please"

"aiwudlaik amug of hotchocolateplees"

Letter "O"

1) Soon (സൂൻ), Moon (മൂൺ), Broom (ബ്രൂം).
2) Rhode, Rode, Road (രോഡ്). Abode (അബോഡ്), Port (പോർട്ട്), Boat (ബോട്ട്), Borne (ബോർൺ), Bone (ബോ)

3) Don, Gone, Rod, Bond, Pond,

The Letter A

1) Hard (ഹാഴ്ഡ്), Barn (ബാഴ്ൺ), Star (സ്റ്റാഴ്), Palm (പാം)

3) Hat, Mad, Ran, Ham, Dance, Act
ഇതാണു് ഈ "A".

4) Camera, Bag, Gas
"യ" ഒഴിവാക്കിയ വെറുതെ "കaമറ, ബaഗ്, ഗaസ് എന്നു ഉച്ചരിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുക.
